I’m a little bitter about this one, to be honest. I wanted to create something special for someone I considered a good friend. After all the time I spent on it, when I gave it to him, all he said was, “Cool.”
I get it. It’s not that great, you know? I guess I feel that if someone does something genuine for you–something from the heart–you should appreciate it. I hope that doesn’t make me sound entitled.
A sketch! This is based on Destiny’s “view weapon details” screen. After looking at this screen for a variety of weapon shapes, I have come to one conclusion:
Destiny perspective is whack. My brain will not grasp this concept easily. I tried to do this a blue million (see the pun? Since I named the gun Blue Wish? …. never mind) times and this is the best I could do. Satisfaction is an enemy of artists, but alas, moving on.
This is the refined, crisp lineart for the Blue Wish.
I was decently happy with it at this point, I think. It would make a cute Destiny coloring page–print it for your kids and let them color it. Email me the result.
You can even let them name it in the title bar!
(Left) I worked on adding my friend’s desired colors (red, white, and blue) and textures. It’s patriotic, but difficult if you haven’t worked with it before.
(Right) I further refine the color palette and textures. I’m feeling a little better about it. Note the colors in the corner–I always have a layer for colors I’m using.
(Far left) I’ve added the perks and attributes for the weapon.
(Left) One more mod!
(Above) These are the final versions of the Blue Wish. I’ve added the description text to increase interest in the weapon, and added the textured, Destiny Ghost themed background.
In the end, I was pretty pleased with how it ended. The perspective still feels off, but I can safely call this one finished.
Here’s a 30-second time-lapse of the Blue Wish weapon process.
